About Mudanzas Gamundi — 67 Years of Moving Honduras

There aren’t many companies in any industry that can say they’ve been doing the same thing, in the same country, for nearly seven decades. Mudanzas Gamundi has been moving families, businesses, and institutions in Honduras since 1957. That’s before the first US astronaut went to space. Before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Before the internet.

We tell you this not to brag about age, but because longevity in a service business means something specific: people have trusted us with the contents of their homes — their furniture, their belongings, the things that make a house a home — for two generations. That trust is not given lightly, and it is not kept without earning it year after year.

Where it started

Gamundi was founded as a family business in Tegucigalpa, Honduras in 1957. Among the first clients: the US Embassy in Honduras. Embassy moves are among the most demanding in the industry — strict protocols, precise timelines, accountability at every step, and zero margin for carelessness. Learning to meet those standards from the beginning shaped what Gamundi became.

Over the decades, Gamundi grew alongside Honduras. As the country’s economy developed, as international organizations established regional offices in Tegucigalpa, as the expat community expanded — Gamundi was there, moving the people who were part of that story.

Today, Gamundi remains a family business. The values that built it — honesty, professionalism, and genuine care for what clients entrust to us — are not a marketing slogan. They are what this company has operated on for 67 years.

FIDI/FAIM Certification — What It Is and Why It Matters

FIDI — the Fédération Internationale des Déménageurs Internationaux — established the FAIM standard: the most rigorous quality certification in the moving industry. It requires independent third-party audits of every aspect of a company’s operations: packing standards, staff training, claims handling, insurance requirements, financial stability, and customer service.

Fewer than 300 companies in the world hold FAIM accreditation. Gamundi is the only one in Honduras.

Earning and maintaining FAIM certification is not a one-time achievement. It requires ongoing audits and continuous compliance. Companies that don’t maintain the standard lose the certification. Gamundi has maintained it.

For clients, FAIM certification means:

  • You are working with a company whose processes have been independently verified — not just self-reported.
  • Your goods are packed and handled to international standards, not local shortcuts.
  • Your insurance coverage and claims procedures are real and documented.
  • You have access to a global network of FIDI partner companies for moves to and from anywhere in the world.

What we actually do

Moving is one of the most stressful experiences a family can go through. It’s made worse when something goes wrong — when boxes disappear, when goods arrive damaged, when customs holds up a shipment and no one answers the phone.

Gamundi exists to make sure that doesn’t happen. We’ve built 67 years of operations around getting this right: showing up on time, packing carefully, documenting everything, clearing customs without drama, and delivering your household intact. When something unexpected comes up — and in international moving, things always come up — you have a team in Tegucigalpa that knows Honduras, knows the system, and picks up the phone.

That’s what 67 years looks like in practice.
