When Do You Need Storage?
- Housing not yet available: Your new apartment or house isn't ready when your container arrives.
- Residency in process: You want your belongings in Honduras while residency approves, but prefer not to move in yet.
- Exploring first: You're arriving without a permanent destination — you want to live a few months before deciding where to settle.
- Temporary housing is smaller: Your transition housing is smaller than your permanent residence will be.
Types of Storage Available
Gamundi's own warehouse storage
Mudanzas Gamundi has storage facilities in Tegucigalpa with controlled access, security monitoring, and trained staff. Your belongings remain in original boxes or packing, stacked and catalogued, ready for delivery when you need them.
Advantages: Continuity of chain of custody — the same team that packed your goods stores and delivers them. Updated inventory. Continuous insurance coverage.
Port storage (not recommended long-term)
If your container arrives at port before you're ready to receive it, it can stay in port storage. Daily costs at Puerto Cortés or air freight ports are significant and accumulate quickly. We recommend coordinating logistics to avoid this situation entirely.
Storage Costs
Costs vary by volume and duration. Certified companies charge per cubic meter per month or week. General reference for Honduras:
- Apartment contents (15-30 m³): estimated $150-350/month depending on provider and included services
- Full house contents (40-80 m³): estimated $300-700/month

Accessing Your Belongings During Storage
With Gamundi, you can coordinate access to your belongings during the storage period. If you need specific items before final delivery, we coordinate that with advance notice. This service is much easier when inventory is well-documented — another reason a detailed inventory is essential from the start.
Insurance During Storage
As a FIDI/FAIM certified company, Mudanzas Gamundi maintains insurance coverage for your belongings during storage. Before signing any storage contract, confirm what the insurance covers, the per-item coverage limit, and how claims are handled.
